LONGFORM CLAP-IN FORMAT IMPROV 3-DAY INTENSIVE
Our signature longform style, THE CLAP-IN, is unique in its open format and freedom to build scenes focusing on the most arbitrary or fascinating parts of improvised scenes. Holly brought the style to THE GROUNDLINGS in 2001 and created the longest-running improv show in Los Angeles there, THE CRAZY UNCLE JOE SHOW, which is still running every Wednesday night. (and which is why some people refer to the format as the CUJ or Crazy Uncle Joe - format.)
Its popularity is due in part to how adaptable and simple it is…it’s not a complicated puzzle or strict structure — its looseness allows improvisers to focus on generating relaxed, organic and character-based scenes. The structure is not the “point”, it’s there to allow you to be autonomous, creating scenes and exploring themes that you want to and find interesting and fun.
